I'm always leary about a drive with bad sectors. I really doubt you'll need to replace the hardrive. So if you haven't had any issues with your external. I really don't always trust what the hardrive is reporting through diagnostic software. I've dealt with plenty of hardrives that reported insane values for temperature, I've even had where smart is tripped but no problems found, and where smart hasn't tripped by massive amount of problems found.

That of course considering if the reading was accurate to begin with. Thought it is quite warm/hot for a hardrive. If a repair fails, the sectors that failed will be repeatedly detected.Ī Hardrive temperature of 54C from my experience isn't problematic.

though personally I've never seen it, The only reason a block would fail is due to excessive read/writes to that same exact block or manufacturing fault which in the former, isn't ever going to happen, and in the latter, generally the drive is doa or fails fully from the bit I've looked up.īad sectors can be detected and repaired on a standard hardrive, if the repair works, then the checks later on won't detect any errors. but most people just refer to the things using similar terminology.īlocks can fail on a SSD. There really isn't "sectors" usually they are called blocks. I still don't like that it has a warning. Now, for some reason this doesn't sound as bad, unless I am missing something.
